Srinagar is the center of Kashmir, which Shah Jahan famously referred to as the paradise on earth. It is a picture-perfect town that appears to have come right out of a painting, with its calm blue lakes and exquisite gardens surrounded by an Arc of Majestic Himalayas. This, in my opinion, is the key factor behind Srinagar's continued popularity as one of the top tourist destinations in our nation despite all the instability and tensions.

On the banks of the Jhelum River, an Indus River tributary, and the Dal and Anchar lakes, Srinagar is situated. The city is renowned for its outdoor spaces, including its parks, gardens, and houseboats. Dried fruits and traditional Kashmiri crafts are particularly popular there. The Sanskrit name Surya - Nagar, which translates to "City of the Sun," is thought to have been altered locally to become Srinagar. It could also have been derived from the Sanskrit terms Sri (venerable) and Nagar (city), making it the "City of Wealth."
